Briahna Gatlin owner of Swank PR & The Purple Block Party and Carol Johnson, Founder of Westside Cultural Alliance & The 1865 Fest are Co-Founders of inaugural event W.E.M.A.D.E. (Women of Excellence Making A Difference Everywhere). Concluding Women’s History Month, Co- Founders Briahna Gatlin and Carol Johnson had an idea to highlight the women who are unsung heroes within their industry. From Community to Real Estate, Hospitality, Media or Politics, WEMADE is about the impact of women making a difference within their respective careers and communities. WEMADE Brunch brings together women that have made a mark and created a path for new generations. Executive Director of “The Camp” Monica Brown and Bridgette Flaggs Founder /Owner of Soule’ Chicago will receive a special award MADE Maven Award that celebrates their journeys in entrepreneurship, impact and longevity in their respective careers.

There will be 32 women who will be honored. The honorees include Jasmine Browley (Business Editor of Essence Magazine), Ceceile De Melio (Executive Director of Team Englewood), Recording Artist Bianca Shaw, Essence Smith (Executive Director of SocialWorks), Nachelle Pugh (Executive Director of John Walt Foundation), Sarah Galvin (Senior HR Investigator at Amazon), Angel Idowu (Arts Correspondent at WTTW), Visual Designer Tacarra “Spifster” Sutton and more.
The event is hosted by WGCI’s radio personality Bree Specific and brunch will be catered by Chef Jamy Franklin of CTRL Kitchen and donating sponsors Mecca Candles, EVN Skincare, IndigoInLove Cosmetics, Fashionably Fly TOST Beverages and more. The event will take place on Friday March 29th, The Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N. Central Park Ave.) from 11am – 1:30pm with performances from China Shadae and Nina Taylor.
