On Father’s Day, a large crowd of hip-hop fans gathered at Seat Geek Stadium for this year’s Summer Smash Festival in Chicago. The festival featured three stages with many performers, but the city of Chicago came out in full force for one performance in particular: Chief Keef’s homecoming.
After a 12-year absence Chief Keef graced the Lyrical Lemonade stage to perform some of his biggest hits. His return brought about many memorable moments, making the third and final day of the festival a celebration of both his homecoming and Fatherhood.

As Chief Keef took the stage, the large crowd around him couldn’t be missed. He was joined by peers like Bump J, Twista Power 92’s DJ Amaris, as well as his family, friends, and notably, his children. G Herbo also made a surprise performance, while celebrating Father’s Day with his son Yosohn in attendance.

In recent years, Chicago’s famed rappers Chief Keef, G Herbo and Lil Durk have each evolved into manhood. With many of them entering the industry at a young age and later becoming fathers. They have redefined stereotypes of Black fatherhood by showcasing first-hand what it looks like.
Despite being primarily recognized for their music, it’s crucial to acknowledge that they also have roles as husbands, friends, brothers, and fathers. As these respected Chicago rappers mature, let’s celebrate not just their rap careers, but also their journey into fatherhood.
On Sunday, Chief Keef proudly had his daughter Kayden “Kay Kay” Cozart on stage with him as he performed. Pausing his show for a brief moment, the title “rapper”, took a backseat as he made sure his kids felt safe and seen during his performance.
With social media offering insight into his life, we witness G Herbo’s journey as a father to three children. He adeptly manages both his career as a rapper and his parental responsibilities, ensuring quality time with his eldest son Yosohn and nurturing connections between his children from different mothers.
Lil Durk has hardly shied away from displaying the love he has for his kids. Despite being one of the most successful rappers in hip-hop, he is present in all six of his children’s lives.
Additionally, the “All my Life” rapper has taken on the role of father-figure.
Showing up for his fiancé’s daughter as well as his deceased brother D’thangs children. On Father’s Day he celebrated his role. Posting a family picture on social media with the caption “I got all my kids for Father’s Day this what a definition of a man is.”
