A tragic shooting occurred in Chicago involving a Venezuelan migrant, as detailed by prosecutor Shelley Keane. Surveillance footage captured the victim, Nieves, entering a gas station in Englewood at 6:45 PM.
Moments later, two SUVs arrived, with one occupant seen putting on a ski mask. Nieves, unarmed, exited the gas station and walked between the two SUVs. When Perez-Paredes, one of the occupants, cracked his door open, Nieves immediately fled. The SUVs pursued him off-camera for two blocks.
According to Keane, Perez-Paredes eventually exited the vehicle, gun in hand. Despite Nieves lying on the ground, unarmed, with his hands raised and pleading, “No! No! No!”, Perez-Paredes fatally shot him in the head.
