According to Fox32 Chicago, a woman from Country Club Hills is facing serious accusations of attempting to smuggle paper infused with heroin and fentanyl into the Cook County Jail. This crime could have had severe consequences.
On August 29, law enforcement officials, through their vigilance, became aware that 47-year-old Nakeisha Andrews might attempt to bring drug-soaked paper during her jail visit. Upon her arrival, officers conducted a thorough pat-down search and found an 8-by-10-inch piece of paper wrapped in plastic concealed in her shirt.
Tests performed by the Illinois State Police forensic lab confirmed that the paper was soaked with heroin and fentanyl, leading to serious charges against Andrews. She was promptly arrested by sheriff’s investigators on October 30 and charged with the grave offense of bringing a controlled substance into a penal institution, a Class 1 felony.
At her initial court appearance on October 31, Andrews was released from custody while awaiting trial. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart noted that his office has filed 59 charges this year related to the smuggling or possession of drug-soaked paper at the jail.
