A man who went missing was found deceased in a tanning bed at Planet Fitness on Monday, three days after he entered one of the gyms in Indianapolis, according to authorities and his family. The remains of Derek Sink, 39, were discovered around 9 a.m., roughly four hours after the gym opened for the day, as reported.
The day prior, his family reported him missing since they hadn’t heard from him since Friday, as stated by the Indianapolis Star, referencing police records. A woman who visited the gym on Monday informed WTHR that a foul odor was present in the building before the discovery of the body in the tanning bed.
The gym operates from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, according to its website. Sink’s relatives mentioned to the local station that he had struggled with drug issues and that a needle was found in the room at Planet Fitness. An ankle monitor worn by Sink assisted authorities in determining his location, as reported by an aunt.
His family members remembered him as a caring individual.
The cause and manner of death have yet to be established, but there is no suspicion of foul play.
