CHICAGO JUDGE REASSIGNED AFTER SENDING RACIST MEME

A newly elected Cook County judge has been reassigned, required to undergo bias training, and will face a state disciplinary investigation for allegedly sharing a racist meme.

Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman worked for the Cook County pretrial division until January 10. Another judge reassigned her after a text revealed a stereotypical meme that mocked Black children’s futures.

The image, which was leaked to the broader public last week, parodied a Little Tykes toy box with a picture of a Black child and a foot outfitted with “My First Ankle Monitor.” In a screenshot of the text obtained by Injustice Watch, Glennon-Goodman sent the image along with a text saying “My husband’s idea of Christmas humor.”

The image appears to be a screenshot of an AI-generated meme from a TikTok video.

In its order, the Executive Committee wrote that Glennon-Goodman’s alleged actions “may violate the Code of Judicial Conduct” and they said they were temporarily reassigning her and referring the matter to the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board “to promote public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.”

A close friend of Glennon-Goodman said the message was sent to another judge by accident and was initially intended to reach another friend with the same first name. However, the damage may already be done.

Although this was intended to be sent to Glennon-Goodman’a friend, was the punishment of being reassigned still appropriate?
