MARKHAM MAN SENTENCED TO FIFTY YEARS FOR STABBING GRANDPARENTS TO DEATH

Romel D. Tyson entered a guilty plea and received a sentence for the fatal stabbing of his grandparents, as indicated in court records.  

In September 2020, authorities discovered the bodies of 66-year-old Gabriel R. Tyson and 65-year-old Carmella Z. Tyson, both fatally stabbed, in their residence on Kedzie Parkway. Court documents reveal that Romel D. Tyson, the grandson of the couple, was residing with them at that time.

The 21-year-old individual was apprehended on two charges of first-degree murder the day following the double homicide. 

In February 2025, the now 26-year-old individual admitted guilt to a murder charge and received a sentence of 50 years in prison, receiving credit for the 1,619 days already served.

Authorities stated that Romel Tyson had been released from prison shortly before the fatal stabbing occurred.
