STEEL PIPE FALLING CAUSES COMPLETE TRAFFIC HALT ON EXPRESSWAY IN CHICAGO

Two individuals sustained injuries when steel pipes fell from a truck on the outbound Kennedy Expressway on Tuesday night.  

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the incident took place around 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-90 close to Lake Street.

A semi-truck loaded with steel pipes collided with the Lake Street bridge, causing some of the pipes to drop onto the expressway and strike two other vehicles.  

The ISP reported that two people were injured and transported to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Lanes were closed for a short time before partially reopening around 11:35 p.m.  

It took the crews from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) until nearly 7 a.m. to fully clear the area.
