NEW FOOTAGE SHOWS DEADLY SHOOTOUT IN INDIANA BETWEEN MAN AND CHICAGO POLICE

The shootout took place on May 8, 2025, following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

Around 5:49 p.m., Chicago police officers responded to a report of a person with a gun in the 13400 block of South Baltimore Avenue. Upon arrival, police located a suspect connected to an aggravated battery case.

The suspect, Joseph Navarro, fled the scene in a vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit that ended in a crash in Hammond, Indiana, near Dearborn and Gostlin Street.

As officers approached the scene, Navarro allegedly opened fire. In response, police returned fire, striking Navarro several times. Navarro was transported to St. Catherine Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability initiated an investigation into the shooting. The Hammond Police Department is also conducting a separate investigation.
