BLACK EMPLOYEES SUE WALMART FOR THEIR EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY

Former Black warehouse workers in Illinois are suing Walmart, claiming they were unfairly fired or denied jobs after Walmart took over a distribution center and ran background checks.

Over 100 Black workers with old convictions lost their jobs—despite solid work histories—while non-Black employees with similar records reportedly stayed.

The lawsuit says Walmart’s policy amounts to racial discrimination. Civil rights groups say it highlights how background checks can unfairly harm Black workers.

Walmart issued a statement, saying, “We don’t tolerate discrimination of any kind. We will respond appropriately to the Court.”
