OVER 500 PEOPLE RESCUED AFTER INDONESIA FERRY CATCHES FIRE

What was supposed to be a normal ferry ride turned into a nightmare for hundreds of passengers aboard the KM Barcelona V-A in Indonesia this past Sunday.

The passenger ferry, which was traveling from Melonguane (Talaud Islands) to Manado in North Sulawesi, caught fire mid-voyage, forcing people to jump into the sea just to survive. According to reports, at least 575 people were rescued, though only about 280 were originally listed on the manifest – a major discrepancy that’s now raising serious questions about overcapacity and safety procedures (New York Post).

Rescue teams, including Indonesia’s coast guard, navy, army, and even local fishermen, jumped into action to pull people from the water. Despite the chaos, they managed to save hundreds, which is nothing short of incredible.

But the fire has sparked serious concerns about ferry safety in Indonesia. With nearly double the number of people onboard than originally listed, many are now calling for stricter enforcement of passenger limits and safety protocols.
