HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER SHOT AND KILLED IN CHICAGO’S SOUTH SUBURBS

The South Holland community is grieving after a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed over the weekend. The victim has been identified as Davell Holden, a beloved student and basketball player at Thornwood High School.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred on Saturday evening, August 2, near 160th Street and Drexel Avenue. Officers responded to the scene around 7 p.m. and found Davell on the lawn with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital but tragically did not survive.

Davell was more than just a name — he was known among peers for his talent on the basketball court and his bright future. Friends and classmates describe him as kind, focused, and driven, with dreams of going far in life through sports.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate the incident. They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
