The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. in the westbound lanes near milepost 129.5, close to Route 53 in the Lisle/Downers Grove area. According to authorities, a flatbed semi struck a light pole, causing its heavy cargo of steel pipes to spill across the highway.
Multiple cars collided with the scattered pipes, and some were visibly crushed under the weight. Drivers and passengers were left shaken, but officials confirmed that there were no reported injuries.

Emergency crews quickly shut down several lanes to clear the wreckage and inspect the scene. Tow trucks were brought in to remove the damaged vehicles, and crews worked for hours to clear the steel debris.
Traffic was backed up for miles, but all lanes were later reopened.
