MULTIPLE PEOPLE SHOT IN MASS SHOOTING ON CHICAGO’S SOUTH SIDE

Five people were wounded in a mass shooting Monday afternoon outside a senior living facility in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. near the Judge Slater Apartments on East 43rd Street, just steps from the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center. Victims include a 72-year-old woman shot in the shoulder, as well as four others — men and women in their 30s and 40s — who suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, arm, and foot.

Chicago police found dozens of shell casings at the scene. All five victims were hospitalized and are reported to be in good or stable condition. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

No arrests have been made, and Area One detectives are investigating. The motive remains unclear.

The shooting has sparked renewed concern among residents about safety in the community, especially given the proximity to a senior housing facility.
