BYSTANDER KILLED DURING CRASH AND GRAB IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO

Chicago police reported that a Louis Vuitton store on Michigan Avenue was targeted in a smash-and-grab burglary early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 4:53 a.m., when a suspected getaway vehicle crashed near the 100 block of East Walton Street, resulting in the death of a bystander.

A bold burglary unfolded in downtown Chicago early Thursday when a stolen pickup truck was rammed into the front of a Louis Vuitton store. Witness video shows the dramatic moment the vehicle slammed into the entrance before a group of masked individuals rushed inside, grabbed merchandise, and quickly escaped.

The suspects fled the scene in several waiting vehicles. One of the getaway cars, a Kia Stinger, sped down Michigan Avenue and crashed into a Honda CR-V at Ohio Street. According to police, the driver of the Honda, a man in his 40s with no connection to the burglary, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that five people inside the Kia involved in the crash were arrested and later treated at local hospitals for injuries that were not life-threatening. Another vehicle tied to the burglary sped off onto DuSable Lake Shore Drive, but the chase ended when the car lost control. Four individuals ran from that scene; police managed to catch two of them, while the others got away.
