CHICAGO SUBURB SHOOTING OUTSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAVES 3 DEAD, INCLUDING ASSISTANT PRINCIPLE

A tragic shooting outside a Chicago-area middle school has left three people dead, including a respected assistant principal.

Authorities say the violence unfolded Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m. outside Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn, a suburb just west of Chicago. Witnesses reported seeing a man armed with a rifle firing into a vehicle near the campus. When police arrived, the gunman also fired in their direction, though officers did not return fire.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified one of the victims as Nerissa Lee, the assistant principal of Lincoln Middle School. Her husband, Steven T. Lee, was also confirmed dead, his death ruled a suicide and investigators naming him as the alleged shooter. A third woman was killed in the incident, though officials have not yet released her name.

Police believe the shooting was domestic-related and stressed that no students or staff inside the building were physically harmed. Still, the school community has been left reeling. Classes were canceled on Wednesday to provide space for grieving staff and families, with counselors made available for anyone in need of support.

Berwyn School District 100 called the tragedy a “devastating loss” for the community, remembering Nerissa Lee as a dedicated educator who poured her heart into helping students succeed.
