WAUKEGAN WOMAN DENIED RELEASE AFTER FATAL HIT-AND-RUN

A Lake County judge has denied pre-trial release for 49-year-old Rosalinda Vaca, the woman accused in a deadly Waukegan hit-and-run that killed 36-year-old Michelle Heidbrick and her unborn child.

The crash happened near a BP gas station on Grand Ave. and Jackson St., where Heidbrick was struck crossing the street. She later died at the hospital, along with her baby.

Police say Vaca turned herself in after seeing the news, claiming she thought she “hit something” but didn’t realize it was a person. She’s now facing felony charges for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and will remain locked up as the case moves forward.
