Chicago’s Chemistry is going viral after hosting an “R.Kelly Tribute” event that featured a performer dressed as the R&B singer.
The event, promoted on the venue’s official Instagram page, was advertised as an “R. Kelly Tribute” night, inviting guests to come out and enjoy music and entertainment inspired by the artist.
The restaurant owner clarified that the R. Kelly mascot was not affiliated with the business, it was brought out by the event’s DJ.
Videos posted online show someone dressed in R. Kelly’s signature look — sunglasses, microphone, and flashy outfit — walking through the restaurant and engaging with guests and just having fun.
Some questioned why a business would choose to celebrate or even reference the controversial figure, especially in his hometown where many of his victims lived. Others, however, defended the event as just another themed night meant for fun, arguing that it was more of a parody than a celebration.
