According to Fox 59, the confrontation began on October 17, 2025, when Trell honked at another driver while stopped at a red light. What should have been a minor exchange quickly turned deadly. The other driver, a 23-year-old Deborah Benefiel, allegedly followed Trell’s vehicle, shouting and gesturing before firing a single shot. The bullet struck Trell in the chest and shattered his back window.

He was rushed for help but tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

Family and friends have flooded social media with tributes, describing Trell as a kindhearted athlete with a bright future ahead of him. Many say the senselessness of his death has left their community shaken and heartbroken.

Benefiel has reportedly been taken into custody on charges of murder and criminal recklessness.

As Indianapolis mourns, Trell’s story stands as a painful reminder of how quickly tempers on the road can turn tragic — and how one moment of rage can destroy multiple lives forever.
