UBER LAUNCHES WOMEN-ONLY RIDE OPTION TAKING EFFECT WEDNESDAY IN CHICAGO

Uber is introducing a new safety feature aimed at women. Called “women drivers,” it’s an option available for adult female riders when booking an Uber. This feature is already in use in select cities.

According to ABC 7 News, this new feature will launch in Chicago and 25 other cities on Wednesday, marking the largest rollout to date. Its aim is to empower women by providing them with increased confidence, control, and choices. Additionally, it can also be used by female drivers.

Women have the ability to reserve and schedule rides with women drivers for added security by selecting the “woman driver” option.

Additionally, there is a second choice where women riders can indicate their preference for a female driver in their app settings, though this option does not guarantee that a woman driver will be assigned.

In August 2025, The New York Timesreported that between 2017 and 2022, there were 400,181 reports of sexual assault and sexual misconduct linked to Uber rides in the United States.
