A woman was sexually assaulted in the heart of the Chicago Loop early Thursday morning, prompting a full investigation from Chicago police and renewed attention on public safety in the city’s busiest downtown corridor.

According to authorities, the 35-year-old woman was attacked around 2:57 a.m. on CTA property in the 200 block of South State Street. After the assault, the suspect fled on foot before officers arrived.

Emergency responders transported the woman to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was reported to be in good condition. Police say no arrests have been made and, as of now, no suspect description has been publicly released.

The incident has raised concern among commuters and downtown residents who rely on early-morning transit. CTA stations—especially in the Loop—typically see increased police and security presence after high-profile incidents, but Thursday’s attack highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring rider safety during late-night and early-morning hours.

Chicago police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the surrounding area to come forward. The investigation remains active.
