This past Sunday, Chi Gives Back successfully hosted its 9th Annual Chicagoland Toy Drive, continuing a powerful tradition of service, generosity, and community impact on Chicago’s South Side. Held at Leo Catholic High School, the event brought together volunteers, families, and city leaders for an afternoon centered on giving back to those most in need during the holiday season.

The toy drive is part of Chi Gives Back’s longstanding mission to support underserved families across the city. Through its structured four-part toy distribution process, the organization works directly with local community organizations, homeless shelters, and civic groups to ensure toys are placed where they will have the greatest impact. This year’s goal—distributing 10,000 toys—reflected the growing need and the organization’s expanding reach across Chicagoland.

Community engagement was on full display throughout the afternoon as families arrived to receive toys and experience a moment of holiday joy. City leadership also showed up in support of the initiative. Melissa Conyears-Ervin, Chicago’s City Treasurer, arrived early to connect with organizers and attendees, followed by Brandon Johnson, who joined the event later in the afternoon, underscoring the city’s support for grassroots efforts that directly serve Chicago families.

The 9th Annual Chicagoland Toy Drive stood as another reminder of what’s possible when community, leadership, and purpose align. As Chi Gives Back continues its work beyond the holidays, events like this reaffirm the importance of collective care—and the lasting impact of showing up for one another when it matters most.
