A Louisiana middle school counselor who was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a student has been found dead, authorities confirmed.

According to WBRZ, Dixon was found dead on the campus of a closed middle school in Baton Rouge on Wednesday. Authorities say his death is being investigated as a suicide. Reports indicate he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, though officials have stated the investigation is ongoing.

Court records show an arrest warrant had been issued the same day Dixon was found dead. He was facing multiple counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile related to the alleged messages, which reportedly included comments about the student’s appearance and inappropriate communication outside of school.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System confirmed Dixon was removed from his duties once the allegations were brought forward and that district officials followed protocol by notifying authorities and launching an internal investigation.
