Two students were taken into custody Thursday morning after a firearm was discovered on campus at Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois. School officials and local police responded immediately after a student reported seeing what appeared to be a gun magazine in the school gym.
A School Resource Officer and Dolton police recovered the weapon, which reportedly included a 30-round extended magazine. The school was briefly placed on lockdown while authorities secured the area and questioned students.
The male and female students arrested are currently in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet announced formal charges. School district officials emphasized that the safety of students and staff is their top priority.
