After more than two decades, rapper and actress Eve is finally getting her flowers from the Recording Academy.
During Grammy Week, Eve was officially presented with a Grammy Award for her contribution to The Roots’ 1999 classic “You Got Me.” The song originally won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2000 Grammy Awards, but because Eve’s verse was uncredited at the time, she did not receive a physical Grammy alongside the group.
That oversight has now been corrected.
The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective honored Eve with the award in a special moment recognizing her role on the track, marking a long-overdue acknowledgment of her contribution to one of hip-hop’s most celebrated records.
Eve, who was still early in her career when You Got Me was released, spoke emotionally about the moment, describing it as validation for “little Eve from Philly” and a reminder that hard work eventually comes full circle.
This recognition adds to Eve’s Grammy history. She previously won her first Grammy in 2002 for her hit collaboration with Gwen Stefani, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” which earned Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The newly awarded You Got Me honor now stands as another official Grammy win in her career.
Fans and fellow artists have praised the move, calling it an important correction and a reminder of how often contributions—especially by women in hip-hop—have gone unrecognized.
More than 25 years later, Eve’s verse on You Got Me is finally being celebrated the way it always should have been.
