A man has died following a serious crash involving an SUV and a CTA bus on Chicago’s Lower West Side early Sunday morning, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
According to Chicago police, the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Blue Island Avenue. Authorities say a 32-year-old man driving an SUV rear-ended a CTA bus that was stopped at a red light.
The force of the collision caused significant damage to the SUV. The driver was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
At the time of the crash, the CTA bus reportedly had five passengers on board. Police confirmed that no injuries were reported among the passengers or the bus operator.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further details have been released regarding possible contributing factors, such as speed, impairment, or road conditions.
