A man was rescued from the Chicago River after reportedly falling off a bridge, thanks to the quick actions of a Wendella boat crew.
The incident unfolded along the river as the tour boat was passing through the area. Crew members spotted the man in the water and immediately sprang into action, maneuvering the vessel closer to assist. Witnesses along the riverwalk watched as the crew worked quickly to pull him to safety.
According to NBC Chicago, the 65-year-old man was unresponsive. Passengers aboard the boat assisted the crew with CPR.
The man regained consciousness and was taken off the boat by paramedics, then transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
It’s unclear what led to the fall, but the fast response from the Wendella team likely prevented a much more serious outcome. Emergency personnel later responded to the scene.
The Chicago River has long been a busy stretch for boat traffic and pedestrians, and incidents like this highlight how quickly situations can turn dangerous. Thankfully, in this case, help was already on the water.
