A former daycare worker in Concord, has been sentenced to just 10 days behind bars after pleading guilty to hot-gluing a 3-year-old girl to a chair because the child wouldn’t sit down.
According to WCNC, 42-year-old Lashawna Williams admitted to using a hot glue gun on the toddler during an incident that left the child with second-degree burns. Prosecutors said the disturbing act happened inside a local childcare facility, shocking parents and community members alike.
Williams pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse as part of a plea agreement. In addition to the 10-day jail sentence, she was ordered to serve six months of supervised probation, complete community service hours, and have no contact with the victim or her family.
The case has sparked outrage across North Carolina, with many questioning whether the punishment fits the crime. Critics argue that the sentence does not reflect the seriousness of physically harming a toddler in a setting meant to be safe and nurturing.
Parents in the area say the incident has shaken their trust in childcare providers, calling for stricter oversight and harsher penalties in cases involving abuse of young children.
While the legal case may be closed, the emotional impact on the child and her family is likely to last far longer.
