A 33-year-old west suburban woman is now facing serious charges in connection with the deadly carjacking of an Uber Eats driver who was simply trying to finish a delivery, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
Montoya Perry, 33, of Maywood, has been charged with felony murder and vehicular hijacking in the death of 28-year-old Daniel Figueroa. Authorities say Figueroa was killed yesterday morning while completing an Uber Eats delivery.
Investigators allege that Perry hijacked Figueroa’s vehicle during the incident, which ultimately led to his death. Details about how the confrontation unfolded have not yet been fully released, but prosecutors say the charges stem from the fatal encounter connected to the stolen vehicle.
Figueroa was reportedly working at the time of the incident — a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers delivery drivers can face while simply trying to earn a living.
The case remains under investigation as Perry awaits her next court appearance. If convicted on the felony murder charge, she could face decades in prison.
This remains a developing story.
