A Southern California man, Timothy Bradbury, 42, has been accused of secretly poisoning a Santa Clarita couple’s food by spraying it with toxic insect repellent, according to KTLA. The victims, Billy and David Sonhopper, reportedly fell ill over several months, experiencing vomiting, chest and stomach pain, and fatigue, prompting multiple emergency room visits.
Authorities say surveillance footage showed Bradbury wearing gloves and a gas mask as he allegedly sprayed groceries, pantry items, and even a coffee pot. He is also accused of breaking into the couple’s room, cutting up their clothes, and stealing medication and IDs.
When deputies arrived at the home on February 24, 2026, Bradbury initially barricaded himself inside, resulting in a standoff lasting several hours before he surrendered. Police recovered a can of insect spray similar to what was seen in the footage.
Bradbury faces charges of willful poisoning of food, drink, medicine, or water with intent to injure, with authorities reviewing the case to determine whether additional felony charges are appropriate. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and the investigation remains active.
The couple, who had lived with Bradbury for about a year, had previously reported troubling behavior before discovering the video evidence. The case has alarmed neighbors and raised concerns about safety in shared living situations.
