SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER CHICAGO OFFICER SHOT ON THE SOUTH SIDE

A sergeant with the Chicago Police Department was shot while on duty late Saturday night on the Far South Side of Chicago, according to WGN News.

Police say the incident occurred in the 11200 block of South Corliss Avenue while the officer was inside a marked patrol vehicle. The sergeant was struck in the leg but managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that the officer is in good condition and expected to recover.

Police have taken one suspect into custody and recovered a weapon. Detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the shooting.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Chicago Police Department as the investigation remains ongoing.
