The Illinois State Police reported that the vehicle became wanted around 11 a.m. after the driver allegedly hit a police car in Bensenville. During the chase, officers said the suspect lit a cigarette and slowed to just 28 mph on the interstate, creating a surreal scene for pursuing law enforcement.

The pursuit was ultimately stopped safely after police deployed two stop strips, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The driver is now in custody facing multiple charges. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and more information—including the suspect’s identity and full charges—is expected to be released.
