Chicago recognizes one of its most influential cultural voices with the city’s highest civic honor.
Chicago is giving flowers to one of its own.
Mayor Brandon Johnson and the City of Chicago have officially proclaimed June 10, 2026, as “DJ Pharris Day”, honoring the legendary DJ, radio personality, cultural influencer, and entertainer for his decades-long impact on Chicago’s music, nightlife, radio, and cultural landscape.
According to the proclamation, DJ Pharris was recognized for consistently representing the spirit, creativity, and energy of Chicago on both local and national platforms. The city also highlighted his commitment to uplifting independent artists, supporting fellow DJs and creatives, and helping create cultural moments that have become part of Chicago’s identity.
For many Chicagoans, the honor comes as no surprise.
DJ Pharris has spent more than 25 years on the air at Power 92.3 Chicago, becoming one of the most recognizable voices in Midwest radio. Throughout his career, he has broken records, introduced audiences to emerging artists, and helped shape the soundtrack of Chicago nightlife and street culture.
The proclamation also acknowledged his leadership through the “This Chicago” movement, his community involvement, and his ability to bring people together through music, live events, and entertainment. City leaders praised his dedication to inspiring the next generation of creatives, entrepreneurs, and entertainers through professionalism, consistency, and hometown pride.
Beyond radio, DJ Pharris has built a legacy as an award-winning DJ, earning recognition as Midwest DJ of the Year while continuing to elevate Chicago culture on a national stage.
One of his most recognizable contributions to the city’s culture is the iconic “This Chicago Yeah” DJ tag, a phrase that has become synonymous with Chicago pride. The tag received new life this past season when it was remixed and embraced by the Chicago Bears, quickly becoming a viral rallying cry across social media and among fans throughout the city.
The City of Chicago’s proclamation describes DJ Pharris as someone whose impact extends far beyond music, recognizing his role in creating cultural moments, championing local talent, and strengthening the city’s entertainment community.
With June 10 now officially designated as DJ Pharris Day, Chicago is formally recognizing a career that has helped define the sound, energy, and culture of the city for more than two decades.
As the proclamation states, the honor recognizes his “outstanding achievements, lasting cultural impact, and dedicated service to the community.”
And if you’ve spent any time listening to Chicago radio, attending city events, or following the culture over the last 25 years, you already know why.
Congratulations to DJ Pharris on a well-deserved honor.
