RANSOMWARE ATTACKERS ADMITS TO SELLING DATA STOLEN FROM CHICAGO LURIE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

HOSPITAL SYSTEM HAS BEEN DOWN FOR WEEKS

A ransomware group that calls itself Rhysida has claimed it sold data stolen from Lurie Children’s Hospital

According to ABC 7 News, the hospital has confirmed they are conscious of the claims, saying, “We are aware that individuals claiming to be Rhysida, a known threat actor, claim to have sold data they allege was taken from Lurie Children’s”. The hospital continues to work closely with internal and external experts as well as law enforcement, and they are actively investigating the claims. Currently the investigation is ongoing, and agrees to share updates when appropriate.

The hospital has been dealing with a cybersecurity attack for the past couple of weeks. The attack hacked Lurie’s phones, electronic health records platform and MyChart systems.

Although they have back up plan options MyChart online patient portal is still down.
