CHICAGO POLICE SEARCH FOR MAN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 6-YEAR-OLD GIRL ON SOUTH SIDE

Chicago police are searching for a man accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl on the city’s South Side, with the incident reported in the Chatham neighborhood, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on the 100 block of West 87th Street while the child was with her mother. Police say the suspect approached the girl, acted as if he was falling, and then inappropriately touched her before fleeing the scene.

The Chicago Police Department confirmed the case is being handled by detectives with the Special Victims Unit. Officials say the investigation remains active and urgent as officers work to identify and locate the suspect.

The offender is described as an African-American man between 40 and 45 years old, weighing approximately 180 to 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray and black baseball cap, a light blue shirt, gray pants, and black gym shoes.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name but say he is being actively sought. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and gathering evidence from the area to track his movements before and after the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information, or who may have seen a person matching the description in the Chatham area around the time of the incident, to come forward immediately. Tips can be submitted anonymously.

Officials stressed that cases involving child victims are treated with the highest priority, and additional support services have been made available to the family.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Chicago police say updates will be released as more verified information becomes available.
