Rising R&B artist China Shadae passionately lets it all out on her new project, Note To Self, released on July 20th. With over 400k views combined on the latest EP, China takes listeners on an emotional journey of heartbreak, love and healing through this eight-song tracklist. With the only feature coming from the Rooga-assisted “Karma,” China Shadae shines throughout the project using her vulnerability as a strength. Some of the notable producers featured are C-Sick, Neil Blanco, and Roy Chase who masterfully create soundtracks that complement China’s singing and storytelling abilities. Enspire Magazine praised the single “Self-Sabotage” stating, “she pens her feelings bluntly, self-aware of her own trust issues. Her takeaway from this journey is to be honest with herself and get her act together before blocking a potential blessing.”
Note To Self is a testament to China Shadae’s growth as an individual. Singles such as “Ungrateful” and “Self-Sabotage” display her being open about trauma from the past, while “What I Want (W.I.W)” and “Someone” shows China embracing confidence and control of her destiny. It’s cathartic music for anyone who might have had or is currently going through similar experiences.
Her “Day One” video, focuses on China taking part in a self care day that includes taking a bubble bath, relaxing and vibing out to her music with her earpods in. The lights are slightly dimmed which sets the mood while she enjoys herself a glass of wine. As she is zoned out in her own world, the lyrics are showing up across the screen slowly. This video embodies the song perfectly, putting an emphasis on true self love until the right person comes along, loving her just as much as she loves herself.
