On May 15th, the Whats The Word crew attended the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Event Showcase at The Promontory on the Southside of Chicago. This event showcase, organized by Cre8ive Sessions, had an all-female performance lineup. There were also vendors and artist merch available to purchase. While the ladies were performing, there were painters making work live on the sidelines, which added another spectacle for the audience to witness.
The What’s The Word Team got to go backstage to speak to the female performers. 2024 Chicago Artist Watchlist recipient, BB Subi, took the stage with other female artists such as the headliner Cece Bke, who dominated the stage. BigMouf’bo, Linda Sol, and Sydny August were also amongst the rest of the amazing performers. I was able to speak with Ruby of Cre8ive Sessions, who determined the event was a success and continued to emphasize the importance of giving female artists a platform in Chicago.
