CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER HOSTS PRE SCREENING FOR ‘TO LIVE AND DIE AND LIVE’

On Friday night Chicagoans gathered at the Chicago Cultural Center for the pre-screening of To Live and Dive and Live, the latest film from director Qasim Basir.

The film follows a diverse set of characters as they navigate their lives against the backdrop of societal expectations, cultural constraints, and personal aspirations. With a rich narrative that explores the complexities of human relationships and the pursuit of personal freedom, Basir’s work shines a spotlight on the universal desire for self-actualization and connection.

The pre-screening event was not just about watching the film, but engaging with it. NK Gutierrez led a post-screening open dialogue, while attendees had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the director, providing insight into the creative process, the inspirations behind the film, and the challenges of bringing such a layered story to life.

Viewed expressed their gratitude to finally see a film that reveals the inner struggles of addicts and black men who are trying to persevere through challenges they face in society, and within their family.

With the film’s strong narrative, visual storytelling, and cultural relevance, To Live and Dive and Live is poised to be a major talking point in the coming months. The film is set to be released in AMC theaters on May 16, 2025.
