Per WGN News, the Chicago Police responded to multiple shootings during the Fourth of July. Eleven people have been pronounced dead, and 50 others were injured in total.
One incident occurred in Little Italy, leaving two mothers and two children dead. There are two children still in critical condition. On the Westside, a 43-year-old man was shot multiple times around 2am. More shootings were reported throughout the night in different parts of Chicago such as South Laflin, South Central Park, and North LeClaire. In Grand Crossing neighborhood, two women and a child were shot and killed when a group of people fired into their home. One of the woman, Caprice Edwards, died while trying to protect her 1-year old daughter.
This year’s statistics mirror last year’s figures, with 57 people being shot on July 4th, 2023. Eight of those shootings resulted in fatalities.
