Chicago police have published a recent video depicting mail thefts on the West and Northwest Sides. These thefts occurred on July 1 at the listed locations within a time frame of fewer than two hours: North Milwaukee Avenue, at the 4300-block, between 4:05 and 4:20 p.m., West Strong Street, at the 6300-block, at 4:21 p.m., and South Mayfield Avenue, at the 900-block, at 5:45 p.m.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service refers to these incidents as crimes of opportunity because the carriers were away from their vehicles while delivering mail. A recent video depicts a white SUV trailing a USPS vehicle.
After the worker departs from their vehicle, two individuals shatter the passenger window and pilfer packages and mail, as reported by the police. A reward of up to $150,000 is available for details leading to the apprehension of another suspect involved in the armed robbery of a USPS employee on June 28. The incident occurred close to 5050 S. Evans Ave. in Bronzeville. The footage depicts a person wearing a pink shower cap approaching the postal worker, who retreats as the individual seems to brandish a weapon.
Police say the suspect is armed and dangerous.
