MARTIN LAWRENCE ANNOUNCES “MARTIN” SHOW PREQUEL COMING SOON TO A TELEVISION NEAR YOU

Earlier this year, at the 75th annual Emmy Awards, the famous Martin show cast members reunited, bringing back the 90s nostalgia we had growing up. My mom introduced me to the show as a child in 1992, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve been running back reruns on BET or Netflix, laughing like it aired today. Pop culture needed this conversation, and everyone, like myself, anticipated this day.

In 2024, the special comedy will return permanently, introducing Young Martin. The series will produce an hour-long comeback as a drama from Martin Lawrence and his production company, RunTelDat, in collaboration with Marvin Peart‘s WonderHill Studios. Young Martin is a modern coming-of-age story focusing on Martin Payne, an engaging young man navigating the challenges of growing from adolescence to maturity. It reinvents the role portrayed by Lawrence on the show Martin in tribute to the original series broadcast on Fox from 1992 to 1997.

Step into the vibrant world of present-day Detroit with “Young Martin,” a captivating series that follows the adventures of the spirited teenager Martin Payne. With a winning combination of ambition, humor, and a genuine concern for others, Martin’s journey brings to life the dynamics of family, friendship, and the trials of growing up. Armed with quick wit and undeniable charm, Martin finds himself in gripping scenarios where he must confront a whirlwind of challenges and emotions to forge his path to success.

During its five-season run, Martin, which Lawrence co-created with John Bowman and Topper Carew, earned People’s Choice and NAACP Image awards. The series’ comeback started in 2022 with a highly rated 30th-anniversary reunion special on BET+, which featured performances by Snoop Dogg and Bryan McKnight. It continued at the 75th Emmy Awards. Martin was recognized alongside other groundbreaking TV series, including All in the Family, Cheers, The Sopranos, Ally McBeal, Grey’s Anatomy, and Game of Thrones, with a set recreation and a cast reunion.
