15-year-old Carly Gregg from Mississippi is standing trial for the March 2024 shooting of her mother, Ashley Smylie, and her stepfather, Heath Smylie, in their home all caught on camera.

Prosecutors say the violence unfolded just hours after a friend told Gregg’s mom about the teen’s marijuana use. They painted Carly as a dangerous killer who had “burner phones,” hidden vape pens containing marijuana, and a history of cheating at school and self-harm.

After killing her mom, Gregg later texted a friend, “I put three in my mom and I got three more waiting for my stepdad,” right before luring her stepdad in to shoot him as well.

Prosecutors says that Gregg asked her friend to come over to see the dead body, moments after shooting her.

According to Independednt, Psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Clark testified during the trial that the teen was facing a mental health crisis that day and that her significant mood swings were made worse by her medications as she was hearing voices and having dissociative problems.

Just days before the shooting, Gregg was put on new medication that made her symptoms worse.

Gregg was found guilty of killing her mother, guilty of attempting to kill her stepfather, and guilty of tampering with evidence just after 2 hours of deliberations. The defense says they plan to appeal.
