Earlier in the day, the Illinois State Police responded to a shooting on I‑290 near Austin Avenue, which shut down eastbound lanes but reportedly caused no injuries. Some social posts suggest the two incidents could be connected, but authorities have not confirmed a link.

The Humboldt Park shooting sparked a large police response, with the area blocked off for investigation. Officials continue to gather details about what led to the shooting and any potential connection to the earlier expressway incident.
