On Thursday, 47-year-old Sabrina Hunter was sitting alone in her home when she was struck by a stray bullet that entered her house. In a conversation with ABC7 News while recovering in the hospital, she recounted that after being shot in the head, she managed to summon enough strength to find her cell phone and call the police. Surrounded by friends and family, she’s expressed how thankful she is to be alive.
She stated, “I just felt something hit me like a blow,” Hunter said. “Got up, and I said, ‘I’m shot! I’m shot in my head!’ And I started screaming and calling my momma.” However, nobody was present. “Then, I just started quoting scriptures, and… I couldn’t see anything,” Hunter said. “Like, I couldn’t see the phone. Everything was blurry for me… I didn’t panic. I just felt the calm of God. He gave me his peace and comfort. He gave me his peace.” The Police arrived shortly after.
In her pain and hopelessness, rather than feeling rage towards those responsible, she turns to her faith, which she claims has helped her endure.
Details regarding the circumstances of the shooting were not available at this time. The Chicago police are still investigating, and no arrests have been made.
