According to Fox 4 Kansas City, a nurse, Elaine McAlister is suing Kansas City police officers for false arrest, racial discrimination, and harassment after being wrongfully detained at Kansas City International Airport in 2023.

She was jailed for four nights before boarding a flight to Jamaica, despite officers having a photo of the real suspect, who looked nothing like her. Her lawsuit, filed in Platte County, Missouri, on Jan. 31, names officers Kyle Greenwalt and Matthew Zils, as well as the city of Kansas City, as defendants.

The lawsuit states that McAlister was the victim of identity theft. Another woman had used her stolen driver’s license when arrested in Johnson County, Kansas, in August 2023, and later failed to appear in court, triggering an arrest warrant.

McAlister also claims police failed to take her fingerprints, which could have quickly proven the mistaken identity.
