On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the 9th Annual Save Our Boys Scholarship and Awards Initiative took place at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Auburn Gresham, Chicago. This event continues to be a cornerstone in uplifting Black youth within Chicago Public Schools (CPS), celebrating their academic achievements and leadership both in and outside the classroom.
The Save Our Boys program was established with the mission to support and empower young Black men in CPS. Each year, the initiative honors students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to their communities. The 9th annual event was no exception, bringing together families, educators, and community leaders to celebrate the accomplishments of these remarkable young men.
According to ABC News, the ceremony featured speeches from local leaders, performances by students, and the presentation of scholarships to deserving recipients. These scholarships are not just financial awards; they represent a commitment to the future of these young men, providing them with the resources needed to pursue higher education and career opportunities.
3 students from Corliss High School received special recognition making this the the first year in the school’s history that three African-American male students have earned the top three honors.
