New York City was rocked Monday evening when an armed man stormed a high-rise building on Park Avenue, unleashing gunfire that left multiple people injured — including an NYPD officer who later died.
The shooter, reportedly wearing body armor and carrying a long gun, entered the 44-story tower at 345 Park Avenue, which houses major companies like Blackstone and the NFL. Panic spread quickly as shots rang out just before 6:30 p.m according to ABC News.
Police rushed to the scene, shutting down nearby streets and ordering a shelter-in-place. The gunman ultimately barricaded himself on an upper floor and was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials confirmed at least two civilians were critically injured, and the fallen NYPD officer’s identity has not yet been released.
Mayor Eric Adams called the situation “deeply tragic,” and praised first responders for their swift response.
Though motive remains unclear, the shooting raises fresh concerns about workplace safety and access control in high-profile office buildings. As investigations continue, the city is left mourning another senseless act of violence in the heart of Manhattan.
