Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on October 23, 2025, in connection with an alleged illegal gambling investigation. The arrest is part of a broader federal probe into sports betting and illegal gambling operations.
According to ESPN, the arrest came just after the Trail Blazers’ season opener. Billups is reportedly implicated in alleged illegal poker games tied to organized crime (in at least some reports) rather than being accused at this time of betting on games he coached.
Miami Heat’s’, Terry Rozier was also arrested on October 23rd by the FBI in Orlando as part of a broad federal gambling and betting-fraud investigation.

The controversy revolves around a March 23, 2023 game when Rozier, then playing for the Charlotte Hornets, faced the New Orleans Pelicans. He appeared in just nine minutes before leaving early due to a reported “foot injury” and did not return for the rest of the season.
That particular game raised red flags as multiple sportsbooks detected unusual betting patterns on Rozier’s player-prop bets, specifically wagers predicting he would record lower-than-expected statistics.
