6 PEOPLE INJURED AFTER A SHOOTING AT JEWEL GROCERY STORE IN CHICAGO

Chaos erupted Tuesday morning inside a Jewel-Osco in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood after gunfire broke out, leaving six people injured, according to police and fire officials. Investigators said two suspects walked into the Jewel located in the Lake Meadows Shopping Center on East 34th Street just before 11 a.m. and began taking items without paying. When they tried to leave, a 46-year-old man — believed to be a store security guard stepped in to stop them.

Police say that’s when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the guard and two shoppers nearby. The security guard was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center with serious injuries. His wife told ABC7 he underwent surgery and is expected to remain hospitalized through at least Wednesday.

A 29-year-old woman was also shot in the foot and taken to the same hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Fire officials said she was initially reported to be in serious condition. Another victim, a 67-year-old woman, was grazed in the foot by a bullet but declined medical attention at the scene. Authorities added that two more people were hurt while trying to escape the store, and another person suffered an unrelated injury during the incident.
