When Slimm heard about the new Michael biopic, she couldn’t help but go back to that moment — the day Michael Jackson passed. She remembers exactly where she was, what song was playing, and how the whole world just stopped. It wasn’t just another celebrity death; it was a cultural shift.
“Everybody was tuned in — from the West Side to the South Suburbs,” she said. “It was like losing family.”
Now, with the upcoming Michael movie set to drop in 2026, Slimm’s been reflecting on how few artists can move a whole culture like that. Michael wasn’t just pop — he was unity, rhythm, and pride. The glove, the moonwalk, the mystery — he gave us all something to feel connected to.
As Slimm put it, “What other artist can make Black people come together like that? That’s legacy.”
And when the lights go down in theaters next year, you already know — the world will stop once again, to remember the man who changed music, performance, and Black culture forever.
